Will Your Yard Take the Trophy?
There are some dates in the Newmarket calendar that bring the whole community together - and the Newmarket Heath Race on Thursday 7th May 2026 is firmly one of them.
This year, we’re proud to once again champion the Stud & Stable Staff Challenge, giving racing yards, stud farms and veterinary practices the chance to compete for more than just a finish time… but for pride, bragging rights, and the coveted Stud & Stable Staff Challenge Trophy.
Racing Community. One Heath. One Trophy.
Open to all racing stables, stud farms and veterinary practices in and around Newmarket, the challenge is simple:
Teams of three runners
Must include at least one male and one female
If more than three run from a yard, the trophy will be awarded to:
First male
First female
Next fastest runner
On the night, one yard will be crowned champion and take home the trophy — with mementos awarded to each scoring team member.
This is about more than competition. It’s about the people who make racing happen every single day. The early mornings. The long shifts. The teamwork. The dedication. The Heath belongs to you — and this is your race.
An Evening to Celebrate Our Industry
The race takes place on Newmarket Heath, at the heart of our town and our sport. It’s an evening event, making it accessible for staff finishing morning lots and able to come together after work. The trophy presentation will take place on the night, giving everyone the chance to celebrate together.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or simply taking part to represent your yard, the atmosphere is always supportive, competitive and distinctly Newmarket.
Why It Matters
At The Racing Centre, we believe in creating opportunities that bring our community together outside the workplace. The Stud & Stable Staff Challenge is a brilliant example of sport uniting the sport.
It encourages wellbeing, team spirit and friendly rivalry between yards — all while showcasing the strength of the racing community.
And let’s be honest… everyone wants to be the yard that lifts that trophy.
