Community Shop to Expand

Community Shop to host Sunday opening.

Having operated the Community Pop-Up shop since November 2020, the Shop is well supported by the community of Newmarket and continues to support those in need. Since inception, the shop has supported 936 households since opening in November.

Two local horseracing businesses have taken up the call to support the initiative to safeguard the shops running and subsidize supplies, namely Rossdales (Equine Veterinary Practice) and Weatherbys Hamilton LLP. Both of which have thanked the Centre on its successful running of the operation and had the following to say.

“In these unprecedented and unpredictable times, the pop-up shop is providing support to members of our local community when they need it most. Rossdales is very pleased to help with this initiative.” – Fred Barrelet, a partner at Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons.

“We are only too delighted to be supporting the Pop-Up shop which is such a valuable initiative. The pandemic has caused serious hardship for so many families over the last year and we know that practical help like this is making a real difference to those who need it in our community.” – Charles Hamilton,  Chief Executive. Weatherby’s Hamilton LLP.

With this in mind, the Centre will initiate a second weekly community shop on a Sunday at 12pm, with an aim to reach those that cannot attend the Thursday shop.

“We are thrilled to be able to continue to host such an important initiative within the community. As a horseracing charity, we are and will continue to support and host community projects to increase the charity’s impact in Newmarket. We are also very grateful that volunteers have stepped forward to allow this project to continue which will we see this initiative continue to grow and develop. – ” John Gilbert, Centre Manager.
